Smoked Turkey Chowder

Chopped smoked turkey adds its flavor to this chowder, which also contains bell peppers, corn, potatoes, and onion, plus celery seed and light cream.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lb smoked turkey legs
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (diced)
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 1 cup fresh white corn (cut off the cob)
  • 6 small red potatoes (diced)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper (or to taste)
  • 2 Tbsp celery seed
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup half/half or light cream
  • 1 Tbsp margarine

Method

Cut turkey off bone and dice; heat oil in large pot, add diced turkey and let brown. Add onions & peppers to browned turkey, let cook til vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes. Add flour and stir; cook about 3 min. Add water and bring to boil; add potatoes, corn, salt and pepper. Cook till potatoes are soft, on medium-low about 15 minutes. Add half and half; return to simmer. Stir and add margarine.
